Frequently Asked Questions
Skip Navigation Links Q: What sets Dragonfly Renovation apart from its competitors?

A: Business acumen. All contracting companies have construction experience; but the owner and operator of Dragonfly Renovation is degreed in accounting and project management. So we don’t just know how to do renovation work—we know how to run a business.

Communication. We know that communication is paramount to a successful renovation, and we promise to keep you up to date on the status of your project. We’ll explain all concepts in terms you can understand and won’t use confusing industry jargon.

Professionalism. We strive every day to provide a level of professionalism not common in the construction industry by paying close attention to detail in all phases of our work and treating you and your home with the utmost respect.

Q: What does it mean for a contractor to be licensed by the Georgia State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors?

A: Georgia state law requires contractors to be licensed. Contractors must undergo rigorous state testing, pass a criminal background check, submit to a financial review and prove they are fully and properly insured.

Q: What kind of insurance should my contractor have? How do I know if a contractor is fully insured?

A: Contractors should have workers’ compensation and general liability insurance. Georgia state law requires it. This is a great reason to use a licensed contractor – the state verifies coverage. Dragonfly Renovation is fully covered with workers’ compensation and general liability insurance.

Workers’ compensation insurance covers our employees and subcontractors in the event an employee is injured while working on your home. Without this coverage, you could be putting yourself at risk for a potential lawsuit or claim on your homeowner’s insurance policy.

General liability insurance covers damage to your home. Our insurance company would be responsible for repairs in accordance with the terms and conditions of our policy.

It is prudent to ask any general contractor you intend to hire, including us, for the name and telephone number of their insurance company and verify their coverage independently. It’s also a good idea to discuss these issues with your homeowner’s insurance agent.

Q: Do I need a written contract?

A: You should always have a written contract before allowing someone to work on your home. And there is no good reason the contractor shouldn’t offer one. After all, the word “contractor” comes from the word “contract.”

Dragonfly Renovation always uses a written contract. The contract spells out all of our responsibilities and yours. We use a “plain language” contract, as free as possible of legal jargon.

Q: How do I get started?

A: There are many steps to a renovation project. While all of these steps are equally important, nothing is more important than education and communication. We sit down with you and explain the process we go through in a typical renovation. We tell you what the major steps are and how they are accomplished. We define construction terms you may be unfamiliar with and speak without using jargon. We encourage you to ask questions—and we believe there are no stupid questions.

Once you contact us, we’ll take the following steps.

  1. We’ll come to your home and talk to you and your family about the general nature of your project, discuss your ideas and objectives and begin the process of determining your budget.
  2. The next step is the design phase. Even small projects require design work, including something as simple as picking a color to paint a wall. We’ll commit all of your design elements to paper so there are no mistakes. If the project is of sufficient size, we will need to engage a designer or architect and begin working with you to create detailed design documents and specifications, including material selections.
  3. We’ll draw up a fixed-price contract, written in plain English.
  4. We’ll begin work!
